Millhouse & The Ardlamont Peninsula
Explore the remains of the gunpowder works, or discover the quiet beauty of Asgog Loch and the ruined castle on its shore, before browsing the excellent range of plants at Crossroads Pet and Garden, and heading to Botanica At The Barn to enjoy a great meal prepared from locally sourced and foraged ingredients, and to say hello to the resident goats.
Be sure to make time to walk to the beach at Ostel Bay, with its shallow, crystalline waters, flanked by dunes and a crescent of golden sand.
If you have time, explore the eastern end of the bay, to see if you can find the mysterious train tracks which run to the water’s edge.
Beyond Ostel Bay, the Ardlamont Peninsula opens up into rolling farmland fringed by forest, with breathtaking views to neighbouring Arran.
As the road heads north again, look out for the Georgian grandeur of Ardlamont House, scene of the infamous murder of 1893, and the distinctive red roof of Carry Farm, where you can browse a selection of locally crafted produce, and book lessons with the Tighnabruaich Sailing School.
