There's loads to see and do at Mount Stuart, from the incredible 19th-century country manor house to the glorious gardens and the award-winning visitor centre. It's a highlight of any visit to Bute and a ‘must see’ attraction in Argyll. The spectacular Gothic house, the ancestral home of the Marquess of Bute, features magnificent Victorian Gothic architecture and design together with contemporary craftsmanship, surrounded by 300 acres of gloriously maintained grounds and gardens. It's a house of innovations. It was the first home in the world to have a heated indoor swimming pool, and the first in Scotland to be purpose built with electric light, central heating, a telephone system and a Victorian passenger lift. Most of which are, quite remarkably, still in use today. The visitor centre houses a gallery, audio-visual presentation, shop and a fantastic restaurant. There's also an adventure play area and a scenic picnic area in the grounds of the house.
