Fly Fishing on The Ruel
The River Ruel, which flows through beautiful area of Glendaruel, provides wonderful salmon and seatrout fishing. This classic West Coast of Scotland/Argyll spate river starts as a moorland stream on the northern slopes of Cruach an Lochain before flowing into a steep gorge. Below the gorge the river is a series of deep runs, smooth flowing pools and fast shallow streams.
In the 1980s and 1990s, in common with many similar rivers, catches dropped, but with the fish farms in the Kyles of Bute having now closed, there has been a very encouraging increase in the numbers of migratory fish coming into the river.
About two miles of the most productive part of the river is available at a price of only £20 per rod per day. The season runs from April to the end of October, but the best months are July through to October.
Fishing, which is fly only, can be booked either on line via www.fishpal.com or by phoning Andrew Barker on 07500 661328.
