Whisky, gin and beer

Islay is famed for its smoky single malt whiskies, with no less than nine distilleries (and one on neighbouring Jura) producing some of the most popular and unique whiskies in the world. Many of the distilleries are in stunning locations and offer distillery tours.

Bowmore, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, is a great place to see traditional whisky-making. It’s worth crossing the water to visit the Isle of Jura Distillery as well. Whisky isn’t the only drink produced on these islands; craft beer and gin are made here too.
