John, The George Street Fish Shop
How have you (your business) gone the extra mile during lockdown or post-lockdown?
The chip shop remained open throughout lockdown but we had to close our restaurant and are now operating at about 50% capacity. Since post-lock we’ve been doing deliveries for the Whisky Vault’s beer garden, which has been successful. We work closely with them but haven’t explored this avenue before now.
What have you missed most about not being open over the last three months?
The people and the foreigners, it’s not been the same and I’ve missed it very much.
What have you learned about your community during this time?
I think the government has terrified part of the community, unfortunately we can’t hide from it, so I think it’s important we remain cautious and implement all the safety measures for moving forward.
What do you love most about living and working here?
I love serving people that really enjoy good food. We were able to serve a lot of people at the chip shop who we haven’t seen in a while.
Your favourite hidden secret spot or activity in Argyll and the Isles?
My parents have a house near Loch Fyne - I think that’s a great spot and it’s not visited so much. The Old Inn in Appin is a great steakhouse and bar - I love to visit.
Three words to sum up how you're feeling now that we're out of lockdown?
Get everyone back to work. (5 words I know…lol)
