Dunderave Castle

Dunderave Castle

Sat on the shores of the picturesque Loch Fyne, in Scotland, Dunderave Castle was originally the seat of clan chief Ian McNaughton who used it a symbol of his pride, prestige and strength.

Standing on an excellent defensive position jutting into the water the fortress has had an interesting and rich history.

Dunderave Castle has had a number of reincarnations and renovations over the centuries with much of the present fortress made up of a major rebuild which took place in 1744.

In the late 1980s it was bought by businessman Barry Weir who undertook his own refurbishment programme and turned it into a top five star hotel.

The castle is now in private hands.
