Get a taste for Loch Lomond at the annual food and drink festival!

What better way to spend a weekend than sampling an array of local food and drink and enjoying fabulous music and entertainment? The answer: do it all in a spectacular setting with Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond as the magnificent backdrop. That’s the hard-to-resist proposition being made by the Loch Lomond Food and Drink Festival which takes place this year on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September. Save the dates and visit one of Scotland’s most scenic and vibrant food festivals this summer.

Taking place at Loch Lomond Shores near Balloch and sponsored by Jim Beam and McIntosh of Strathmore, the festival may just have the most dramatic setting on any such event in the UK. It has certainly hit a sweet spot with the public and has grown in popularity and size year on year since the first event back in 2005. Up to 30,000 people will flock to this free festival over two days to enjoy an epicurean adventure.

The event brings together tastes from the Loch Lomond area, as well as specialities from across the world. Cookery demonstrations, cook-offs, tastings and samplings, live music and kids’ entertainment all add to the foodie fun. And that’s not including the main attraction. You’ll find over 75 food and drink suppliers serving up mouth-watering delights for you try at the Farmers’ Market. All you need to bring is your appetite!

If you like scrumptious savouries then you’re in for a treat, with everything from fresh Scottish seafood to delicious street food to tickle your taste buds. It doesn’t get any fresher or tastier that 100% wild Loch Lomond National Park venison. Try venison steaks and burgers cooked over a charcoal barbecue, venison chilli pots and pulled venison. You’ll find plenty of treats to satisfy a sweet tooth too. Chrystal’s Shortbread is handmade in Argyll to a traditional family recipe. We dare you to visit The Funky Fudge Company and not be tempted by one of their many types of fudge and truffles. And if you fancy a drink to complement all this fabulous food, you’re spoilt for choice. Small-batch gins, whiskies, craft beer from Loch Lomond Brewery and cider are all on offer in the bar. Fancy working up an appetite? In Your Element will have canoes, katakanus, pedal boats and bikes for hire, as well as guided Segway sessions. Kids will love walking on water with In Your Element’s WOW balls. Or how about paddling to a small deserted island in the lagoon at Loch Lomond Shores for a bushcraft experience? You’ll forage for a variety of different flora and collect material to start a fire in the traditional way with flint and steel.

The Loch Lomond Food Festival is a great event for families, with fun activities for kids taking place across the weekend. From face-painting to balloon animals, craft workshops to treasure hunts, there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained. Let the little ones get hands-on with a cupcake- and biscuit-decorating workshop. Or how about heading to the Dragon’s Den Playpark to meet the Regal Story-Tellers? They’ll be sharing stories about medieval food and giving kids a taste of what dinner time would have been like in the olden days.
