Twelve Argyll festive markets that you can’t miss

The festive season is nearly upon us! In Argyll that means festive markets galore. These markets are a great way to pick up a unique Christmas gift, as well as discover some delicious artisan treats to enjoy over Christmas and New Year. Many of the markets are organised by local producers, and you’ll get to meet the producers and find out more about their products. This Christmas, shop local and visit one of these festive markets in Argyll.

Start this weekend at The Tree Shop Craft Fair on Sunday 10th November. Browse the local gifts and crafts and meet the makers. The Tree Shop is just an hour from Glasgow and is ideal for a day out. The original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is next door, Loch Fyne Ales is just up the road and Ardkinglas Woodland Garden is nearby.

The Oban Winter Festival is a 10-day event running from 15th to 24th November. With a reindeer parade, haggis festival, tartan dash, haggis hurling, a firework and light show and lots more, there’s something for everyone. The beating heart of the festival is the brilliant Victorian Market and Scottish Food & Crafts Market.

Next up is the Colintraive Christmas Fair on Saturday 16th November from 11am to 3pm. Your £3 entry gets you some mulled wine and a mince pie. There’s a fabulous selections of stalls selling produce and crafts made locally. The Colintraive Hotel is just next door and is a fabulous place to grab some lunch with plenty of local produce on the menu.

Dunoon Dazzles is a fun-packed day leading up to  Dunoon's annual Christmas lights switch on taking place on Saturday 23rd November. There’s a big festive street market during the day where you can buy loads of great local gifts and produce.

For a fabulously festive day out, don’t miss the Christmas markets at Loch Lomond Shores. They’re held every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 23rd November to 22nd December. Browse the wooden cabins, pick up seasonal treats and stocking fillers and soak up the atmosphere.

The Tobermory Christmas Producers’ Markets are held on Saturday 23rd November and Saturday 21st December from midday until 3pm. Get the very best seasonal food, gifts, arts and crafts from local farmers, artists and makers. The markets take place in Aros Hall in Tobermory on Mull.

The Helensburgh Festive Market on 30th November and 1st December. Part of the Helensbugh Winter Festival, the market offers a wonderful range of gifts and goodies to make your Christmas special and an international menu of street food.

Over on Kintyre, the Malt Barns at Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown is a wonderful venue for the Campbeltown Christmas Market on Sunday 1st December. There’s plenty to keep you busy with over 60 stalls selling a fabulous range of crafts and produce, mainly from Kintyre. There are kids’ activities too.

Also on Sunday 1st December is the Mount Stuart Christmas Market on the island of Bute. This is another stunning venue. Held in the beautiful Marble Hall, there will be stalls, festive entertainment, Santa's grotto, delicious food and more. Work up an appetite for a mince pie or two with a winter stroll through the lovely grounds.

Make your way to the Kames Producers’ Market on Saturday 7th December. This annual event on Argyll’s Secret Coast is organised by the local allotment group. It’s an absolute cracker, with tables groaning with crafts and gifts and artisan produce, including coffee that’s roasted five minutes up the road. The Portavadie Festive Market is on the same day, starting at midday. It’s just a few miles from Kames, so you could make a day of it and visit both.

On Mull the Craignure Christmas Producers' Market is on 8th December. Discover a huge range of great produce from Mull, including Mull cheese, local pork, beef, venison and lamb, as well as a variety of handmade breads, jams and gifts.

On Saturday 14th December, Botanica at The Barn in Millhouse is holding a Festive Celebration, there will be local stalls, twinkling lights, a Santa’s Grotto and much more.
