What makes Oban Live one of Scotland's best music festivals?

Scotland’s music festival scene is buzzing. From rousing rock shows to captivating ceilidh concerts, there’s something for all tastes. But here in Argyll we reckon we have one of the best music festivals in Scotland. OBAN LIVE is a celebration of the best of Scottish and international music organised by multi award-winning Scottish super-group Skerryvore. It’s an electrifying weekend of live music at Mossfield Park in Oban. On top of that you’ll find great local food, ales and a dram or two being served up. Here’s why Oban Live should be on your Scottish music festival list this summer!

Skerryvore
OBAN LIVE is the vision of Skerryvore, and the band’s brand of energetic Celtic folk rock pulses through the event. The Skerryvore musicians hail from the Hebridean island of Tiree and their music is deeply rooted in Argyll. Ceilidh music, rock, pop, jazz and Cajun combine with a strong Celtic influence to create a powerful live sound that’s guaranteed to get you dancing. The band’s set at last year’s OBAN LIVE can only be described as epic! Skerryvore’s barn-storming single Live Forever is the theme song for Mark Beaumont’s Wild About Argyll campaign. It’s the perfect soundtrack for OBAN LIVE. We can’t wait to hear the crowd singing along! Skerryvore is heavily involved in the Scottish music scene – including the Tiree Music Festival – and is able to bring together some of Scotland’s top bands to play at OBAN LIVE. The result is a roller coaster ride of Scottish music of all genres plus a few international gems. And that brings us on to the line up for 2017…

The line up
Well, what can we say? This year’s OBAN LIVE line up is simply awesome. Toploader, Hue and Cry, Skipinnish, Tide Lines, Trail West, Mànran, We Banjo 3, Admiral Fallow, Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire, Ceol and Aire, the Argyll Ceilidh Trail and more special guests will all be joining Skerryvore on the stage at Mossfield Park. The high-energy music of fellow Argyll bands Trail West – from Tiree – Tide Lines and Skipinnish is guaranteed to get the crowd on its feet, as will Mànran’s fiery tunes from fiddle, accordion, flute, uilleann and Highland bagpipes combined with elements of funk, jazz and rock. And who won’t be singing along to Toploader’s celebrated hit ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’?

The location
Mossfield Park is just a 10-minute walk from Oban town centre. It’s a fantastic open-air venue surrounded by stunning Scottish countryside. Oban, the largest town in Argyll & The Isles, is a bustling place that’s full of life, with convivial bars and streets packed with independently owned shops and cafés. Many put on special menus and gigs as part of the OBAN LIVE Fringe, including official after parties at The View, and there’s always a fantastic atmosphere in town over the festival weekend. Known as ‘Scotland’s Seafood Capital’, Oban is the place to sample fresh seafood.

If you fancy exploring Scotland’s beautiful west coast, you couldn’t pick a better base. CalMac, Scotland’s largest ferry operator, provides an extensive service from Oban to the Inner and Outer Hebrides and lots of other companies offer boat trips from the town. Or head north to visit two picturesque peninsulas – Benderloch and Appin – and see Castle Stalker, one of Argyll’s most romantic castles.

OBAN LIVE takes place on 2nd and 3rd June 2017. Tickets are still available to buy online.
