Rothesay Castle

On the Isle of Bute, Rothesay Castle dates to the early 13th century and remains remarkably well preserved despite its age. Built by the Stewart family to defend against invading Norwegian fleets, Rothesay’s immense circular curtain wall makes it unique in Scotland. 

Opening Times

1 April - 30 Sept: Daily, 9.30am - 5pm, last entry 4.30pm, closed for lunch between 12-1pm

1 October - 31 March: Open daily except Thursday & Friday, 10am - last entry 3.30pm (closes 4pm) 

Christmas: Closed from 24 December - 5 January
