Cycling Adventures in Argyll & the Isles

Scotland's Cycle Coast

Argyll & the Isles is a cyclist's dream. With our natural terrain ideally suited to the full range of pedal-powered adventures, we’re proud to have developed a strong cycling infrastructure. We have excellent public transport, fabulous places to eat and drink and local cycling groups who are passionate about developing more routes to explore.

For road cyclists, we have miles and miles of scenic roads, long straight stretches and plenty of challenging hills and bends that are perfect for clocking up the distance. For mountain bikers, we have acres of forest trails with steep ascents and daredevil drop-offs. And for gravel bikers, we have an intricate network of tracks and trails through our extensive forests, woodlands and along our coastlines. We offer tried and tested bikepacking trails and packrafting suggestions for those who want to extend their adventures to the water.

Think cycling The Caledonia Way, Five Ferries Island Hopping challenge, Wild About Argyll Bike Packing Trail and a variety of sportives. It’s all so accessible here on Scotland’s Adventure Coast.

Argyll & the Isles is a beautiful corner of the world with an ever-changing landscape and an abundance of wildlife. What better way to explore it than on two wheels?

To experience the best of Argyll & the Isles, check out our recommendations for your pedal-powered adventures.

Try something different - Fat Biking!

Fat biking is bikes with big tyres! If you are craving some fun then a fat bike on a long sandy beach could be just the ticket. Fat Bikes can be rented for example from Kayak Wild Islay, and where better then the big strand to for an adventure.

Fat bikes are also good to explore different terrains - less so for covering big distances and can be perfect bike for some packrafting adventures - a great spot being north Argyll near Bridge of Orchy where you can get off the train and head up to Loch Tulla.
