Important Information
Booking and opening times
Distillery tours are frequently limited in number, seasonal or affected by production shutdowns - some smaller or newer distilleries don’t yet run a settled public tour programme at all. Always check the distillery’s website for current opening times and book ahead, especially in peak season when popular tours can sell out weeks in advance.
A note for families
Minimum ages vary between distilleries, with some experiences restricted to visitors aged 8+, 12+ or 18+. Always check the specific distillery’s policy before you book if you’re travelling with children.
Drink responsibly
If you are driving, plan ahead. Some distilleries offer takeaway driver’s drams or alcohol-free options. You can also use local buses, taxis, or booked transfers. See the Scotch Whisky Association's guidance on responsible drinking for more info.
Port Ellen Ferry Terminal Closure
Port Ellen ferry terminal is closed for redevelopment and is expected to reopen in 2029. CalMac services are currently operating through Port Askaig. Check CalMac’s latest route information before you go.
