Cowal u3a – The work of the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute

Jane is going to talk about her role as Lord Lieutenant and her role as ‘the Monarch’s personal representative in the area’, supporting and recognising public service, community life and civic occasions across the area. This will include highlighting her role as Chair of Developing Young Workforce (DYW) Argyll & Bute. Scott will then talk to us about what DYW is, what they do in Argyll & Bute and why they do it. As both Jane and Scott are lifelong residents of Argyll and Bute, they bring enthusiasm and commitment to the area, and it will be great to hear about the work and impacts they have, both in DYW and beyond. Jane is the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, a role encompassing a range of areas and initiatives. She is a Solicitor and legal adviser to MacLeod Construction, one of Argyll’s largest employers, and has been Lord Lieutenant since 2020. Scott McKinnon is the Lead for Developing the Young Workforce across Argyll & Bute, which aims to connect employers with education to ensure young people are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the world of work. Scott grew up locally in Innellan, having attended both Toward Primary and Dunoon Grammar, and, in his spare time, is involved in organising the Cowal Highland Gathering.
