The castle dates back to the 14th century and is the ancestral home to Clan Maclean. Duart is currently home to Sir Lachlan Maclean, 28th Chief of Clan Maclean. The Castle is steeped in history from the ancient keep to the banqueting hall and not forgetting the dungeon! On a clear day a visit to the battlements is a must, the view is quite spectacular. Open from April through till October, Duart Castle offers a day out for everyone, keen history lovers, families and those who admire beautiful surroundings. Maybe you would simply enjoy walking in the footsteps of Hollywood actors such as Sean Connery? Duart has a cosy tearoom which prides itself on serving locally sourced produce and traditionally baked goods, lunches and hot drinks. Duart also boasts beautiful walks below the castle and down to the sea and the Millennium wood is open to all.
