Appin is a peaceful and secluded peninsula situated in the southern-most part of the district in the south of Lochaber between Oban and Ballachulish.

Castle Stalker

Sitting on a small island on Loch Linnhe, overlooking miles of incredible scenery, Castle Stalker is a 14th century castle once belonging to the infamous MacDougall clan.

Loch Linnhe is a very scenic location that is a popular spot for the keen photographers, as well as offering many outdoor activities. Nearby, you can also explore the iconic locations of Oban and Glencoe.

Planning your journey

Appin is on the A828 between Oban and Ballachulish. If travelling from Oban, you can drive or take the bus to Appin village.

It is possible to cycle to Appin along the National Cycle Network route 78.

Many visitors to Appin also visit the Isle of Lismore for a day visit, either by foot or bicycle. The Lismore passenger ferry operates from Port Appin to Point which is at the north end of the island. The journey time is approximately 10 minutes.
