Discover some of Argyll’s most stunning beaches, landscapes and hidden gems in Kintyre and Gigha. A peninsula and island ready to welcome you and help you slow down the pace and soak up nature.

Gigha is known for being small in size but crammed full of possibility, with sandy beaches and clear turquoise seas and many archaeological and historic sites to be discovered.

Kintyre is home to the once proclaimed ‘the whisky capital of the world,’ Campbeltown situated on the beautiful peninsula of Kintyre is one of Argyll’s largest towns.

Day 1 - Skipness & Tarbert

Day 2 - Isle of Gigha

Start with an E Bike adventure on one of the Walking & Cycling Routes. Bikes can be hired from Gigha Boats and Activity Centre.
Have lunch and an ice cream at Wee Isle Cafe.
Have a relaxing afternoon at Achamore Gardens .
If beaches are your thing, why not visit the famous Eilean Garbh beaches (or the Twin Beaches as they’ve come to be known).
Don’t forget to head back The Nook Takeaway before catching the ferry if you are on a day trip.
If you are staying the night, there are accommodation options from camping at Gigha Campsite to luxury accommodation at Hideaway Holiday Lettings.
In the evening, as dusk approaches, you can visit the Dark Skies Theatre in the North of the Island.

Day 3 - Campbeltown, West Kintyre, Southend

Start your day with a stroll to Davaar Island and visit the Cave painting (please check tide times beforehand).
Once back on the mainland, head to Glenbarr Stores Cafe for lunch.
Have some family fun time with Beachmore Alpacas, or if you want to try something a bit different, get surfing lessons at Westport Beach with Pete’s Surf School.
There are many other activities to enjoy around Campbeltown, including hiring a bike or e-bike from Kintyre E-Bike Hire and taking a walk or cycle along the new walking & cycling path to Kilchoman, which starts from the shipyard site.
If you like to explore caves and historical footprints, head down to Southend and visit Keil Caves, Columba’s Footsteps and Dunaverty Rock, the scene of a historic massacre.
Don’t forget to pop into the Kintyre Larder for a bite to eat or purchase some local produce, including tasty Kintyre Smokehouse seafood.
There’s also some great wet-weather or evening things to do, including a visit to one of the oldest cinemas in Scotland, Campbeltown Picture House, Campbeltown Heritage Centre, the Museum, and the Aqualibrium Leisure Centre for swimming. For the younger members of the family, there is also a great soft play centre at Kintyre Community Centre.
After a long day of activities, the Ardshiel and Craigard Hotels in Campbeltown offer excellent options for evening meals with tasty local produce.

Day 4 - East Kintyre - Saddell, Torrisdale and Carradale

If you are heading up the East Coast road, take in some spectacular scenery before stopping at Saddell for a morning full of things to do. Park at the Gatehouse and walk down the lane to Saddell Castle. Saddell is famous as the location for Paul McCartney’s Mull of Kintyre video, but it is also the site of the Anthony Gormley sculpture, GRIP. If the tide is out, get a unique selfie in a fantastic backdrop.
Before leaving Saddell, head up to the ruins of Saddell Abbey, which dates back 1160 CE.
For lunch, pop into Beinn an Tuirc Café for tasty home baking and meals made from local produce. Why not visit the new bio dome or go on the Lairds Walk around the estate.
Spend the afternoon in Carradale, just 5 miles further up the road and visit the Heritage Centre or go for a walk along the glorious sands of Carradale Beach and paddle in Carradale Bay. At the end of the bay, you can walk to Carradale Point and see the Vitrified Fort, which was constructed more than 2000 years ago.
As a reward for your travels, head to Blackbird Tearoom for an ice cream and a snack.
As evening approaches, you can dine at The Glen Bar and Restaurant. Depending on the time of year you visit, there are various events & festivals throughout the year, including five music festivals and two food festivals to keep the whole family happy.
