This footpath-based route is accessible for most visitors to Bute.
This tour is 7 miles long, please allow at least 2 hours 15 minutes to complete it, excluding the time taken to enjoy the destinations along the way.
Starting south-west from Rothesay, a particular highlight is the gentle climb to Canada Hill – a scenic view historically known for being the last point at which Bute residents would bid farewell to emigrating family members departing from Rothesay Bay.
Following the loop south, signs mark Ascog Fernery to your right before the path returns to the coast itself at Montford. Ardencraig Gardens offer an inviting mid-route rest and retreat amongst landscaped gardens, exotic flowers and glass-houses.
The return to Rothesay Bay is relatively light-going; the route concludes near Rothesay Castle, with the iconic Victorian architecture of the Winter Gardens Discovery Centre visible nearby.
