Where to stay

Kintyre has some fantastic accommodation options from Hotels to 4-star B&Bs and self-catering accommodation, so you have lots to choose from when you visit.

You can choose your luxury accommodation from:

Day 1

On arrival, if you stay at the Ugadale Hotel or Cottages, you can treat yourself with a Saturday morning or afternoon session at Serenity Spa.

Eat at the Old Clubhouse or the Kintyre Restaurant. If you are looking for a night of traditional music, check beforehand to see if the last Friday of the month has live music in the Old Clubhouse or Black Sheep Bar.

Day 2 (Option A)

Visit one of the distilleries or the Gin School for a tour. Glen Scotia Distillery offers a variety of tours on a Saturday. If gin is your thing, why not book an afternoon at Beinn an Tuirc Gin School?

You can also book accommodation on Torrisdale Estate, which offers a variety of self-catering options, ranging from luxury bothies to cottages with hot tubs.

  • If you head back to Campbeltown, stop at Saddell and visit the beach made famous by Paul McCartney, where you can get a selfie with the Anthony Gormley sculpture, GRIP.
  • Once you reach Campbeltown, why not indulge yourself with a Hollywood treat at Fetcha Chocolates, which supplies handmade chocolates for the Oscars Celebrity Packs.
  • Hire an e-bike from Kintyre e-bikes and explore the local area, or go on one of the bi-weekly Heritage Trail Walks and find out more about the history of the area.
  • For your evening meal, consider dining at the Ardshiel Hotel, which features an extensive whisky bar, or the Craigard House Hotel, renowned for its seafood menu.

Day 2 (Option B)

  • After breakfast, spend the morning paddling on the beaches at Southend and visit Columba’s footsteps where the first King of  Scotland was crowned.
  • Then head up to Glenbarr for lunch at The Glenbarr Stores Cafe before catching a ferry to the Isle of Gigha for an afternoon on the Island, or head up to and explore Skipness Castle & Chapel
    before stopping in at Skipness Seafood Cabin for an evening meal.
  • If you are staying in South Kintyre and want to see one of the latest movies, look no further than the award-winning Campbeltown Picture House, which is one of the longest-running cinemas in Scotland.
  • For a late drink or something to eat, book into the Harbour View Grille and relax afterwards in the Black Sheep Pub.

Day 3

Explore the West Coast of Kintyre and visit Westport Beach. If you like sea sports, book a lesson or hire a board at Pete’s Surf School.

  • Have lunch by the seaside at the Argyll Hotel at Bellochantuy
  • As you travel up the west coast, stop in at Tarbert to visit Tarbert Castle before heading home.
