Lying in an idyllic setting at the head of Loch Fyne, near the mouth of the River Kinglas, the village of Cairndow is set just off the A83 which is the main route from Glasgow to Inveraray.

Despite its size, it has many attractions for visitors, including the Stagecoach Inn, one of the oldest coaching inns in Scotland.

Kilmorich Parish Church built in 1820 is one of only two in Scotland to be built with an interesting hexagonal shape and is very picturesque in its surroundings.

Ardkinglas Estate includes the House, Woodland Gardens and Gruffalo Trail can be found at the very south of the village and is home to a remarkable collection of trees and shrubs from various corners of the globe and visitors can often encounter red squirrels whilst walking in the gardens.

The garden is also home to several 'champion trees' including the mightiest conifer in Britain.

Planning your journey

Travel from Glasgow on the A82 on the west side of Loch Lomond, and then take the A83 at Tarbet, and pass through 'The Rest and Be Thankful' before reaching Cairndow.

Alternatively, travel via the A85 and then take the A819 before Dalmally towards Inveraray and then join A83 for 10 miles.
